You don’t need to be living on a farm to enjoy the cozy vibes of a farmhouse kitchen! These North Wilmington homeowners brightened up their previously dark wood kitchen and added functionality with inspiration from this popular style.
Farmhouse kitchens are currently very trendy and the charm can be added without breaking the bank. Sometimes only a few elements need to be changed to get the desired look.
Switching up the kitchen cabinets is a great place to start since white cabinetry is a classic element of a farmhouse kitchen. These homeowners selected Fox Chase square style Kraftmaid cabinets in the color Moonshine. The traditional door style with a contemporary color scheme fits in with many homes from the North Wilmington area.
Another defining characteristic of a farmhouse kitchen is the sink. In addition to their charm, the farmhouse sink is a spacious and practical spot for pots and pans. The apron front of this sink establishes a focal point in the kitchen.
A huge step in the transformation of this home was to knock down a wall between the dining room and kitchen to create more open space. With a now bigger floorplan, an island was installed in the center of the kitchen. The homeowners selected countertops in a light and dark variable color that acts as a good contrast to the simple cabinet design.
The homeowners also wanted to add more space for cooking and seating. Holcomb Cabinetry added a space saver microwave to the design to save extra countertop space. For more seating, we added an overhang on two sides of the island for the option to slide more stools underneath.
The backsplash was laid out in a white subway tile, a classic look that doesn’t take away from the other features of the kitchen. For this home, a tile with an angled edge was used to add a little extra depth and character to the backsplash.
Finishing touches include the island pendant lights, which add personality and ambiance to the room. The angled corner cabinet in the dining area introduces an antique style and is a place store and display extra dishware.
Now infused with brighter tones, the kitchen has a much more welcoming atmosphere. The sleek stainless steel appliances and light surfaces add some modern style while the wood flooring and furnishings provide the perfect amount of contrast and warmth.
