A kitchen renovation project doesn’t always require completely changing the entire layout of the kitchen and appliances. Sometimes, some new cabinets, countertops, extra enhancements are all that is needed to bring the “wow” factor back.

These homeowners in North Wilmington asked for a contemporary style inspired kitchen with space for their extra cooking supplies and appliances. The result is a new and improved space designed to meet their storage needs.

Traditional style cabinets from the Kraftmaid Vantage Line style Jovana in the color White Dove with a Cinder Glaze were selected. Some glass cabinets were also installed, making the cookbooks candles, and other kitchen necessities visible and within reach.

The light cabinets are complimented with a contemporary blue and gray styled backsplash. This brings more personality and dimension into the kitchen than the previous white tile backsplash.

The countertops are from the Cambria line in the color Summerhill. There is a slight, soft contrast between the backsplash and countertops, with the veins within adding a visual point of interest.

The client prioritized maximizing their space so the Holcomb Cabinetry team filled the kitchen with storage solutions. Extra cabinetry was added above and around the refrigerator for easy access to the commonly used products. A toe-kick drawer was added near the floor and to the right of the stove. This acts as the perfect spot to store less-used items and the nifty drawer opens with just a tap instead of pulling.

Another smart solution for more countertop space is a pullout cutting board. For this client, a 4’ sliding cutting board in a butcherblock table style was added by the microwave.

The final touch was the addition of a passthrough window in the living room. This window opens up the space and creates a much better line of sight from one room to another.

As seen in the before and after photos, the upgrades created a more versatile and modern kitchen, perfect for many years of cooking and entertaining.
